Operator CxO of the Year

The 5G World People's Choice Award - Operator CxO of the Year will recognise the outstanding achievements of an individual working in the mobile telecommunications industry. The award celebrates an exemplary individual who is a true guru in the industry, able to influence the current developments for LTE and also influence the future of 5G network developments and technologies.

Bruno Duarte, CCO at Sunrise Communications

Bruno is the CCO of Sunrise in Switzerland, where he is responsible for the company Consumer Business. Prior to joining Sunrise in May 2017, Bruno spent 9 years in EE in the UK where he ran a number of Consumer business units. Prior to joining EE (Orange UK at the time) Bruno was a member of H3G executive team in the UK. Bruno was previously a Partner at Management Consultants Arthur D. Little where he worked in France and in the US. Bruno holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Diplôme d’Ingénieur de Supélec, France.

Elisabetta Romano, CTIO at TIM

Elisabetta Romano is Chief Technology and Innovation Officer for TIM, and is responsible for ensuring TIM’s technological innovation, evolution of the networks, and for the Information Technology required to support TIM’s digitization process at Group level. She oversees the integration of engineering processes, and the development of technological infrastructure, platforms and IT applications, as well as the governance of the related businesses. Romano has been working in telecommunications, IT and Media for around 30 years, with a career primarily at Ericsson, both in Europe and the United States. She previously led Ericsson's TV & Media division, and most recently, was head of Ericsson’s Core Network division, focusing on the development of connectivity services, particularly those linked to mobile broadband using 5G technology.

Ibrahim Gedeon, CTO at TELUS

Ibrahim Gedeon is one of the global telecommunications industry’s eminent thought leaders. He has carved out an international career by combining tremendous insight and skill as an applied scientist with a lighthearted and non-conventional approach to leadership. As Chief Technology Officer for TELUS, a leading national telecommunications company in Canada, he is responsible for all technology development and strategy, security, service and network architecture, service delivery and operational support systems, as well as service and network convergence, and network infrastructure strategies and evolution. Under his leadership the TELUS wireless broadband network has become one of the best in the world.

Ingeborg Øfsthus, CTO at Telenor Norway

Telenor Norway operates in a landscape characterized by vast valleys and numerous mountainous regions, all of which making it difficult to build a mobile network. Despite Norway’s challenging typography, Telenor Norway has ‘the world fastest mobile network’ according to Ookla and CTO Ingeborg Øfsthus is spearheading the way forward. In 2018, Ingeborg leads the launch of Scandinavia’s first 5G pilot, and she is currently working on launching multiple ‘new’ 5G pilots during 2019. Looking past the Norwegian borders, Telenor plays a key role in the development of 5G as the company is facilitating and coordinating the pan-European 5G project - 5G-VINNI.

The Norwegian telco already provides mobile network coverage to 99,7 percent of its population, but Ingeborg has no plans of slowing down. Her mission is to deliver the world’s greatest network for all citizens of Norway, both fixed and mobile.

Zarrar Khan, CTO at Viva Kuwait

Zarrar Khan, CTO at VIVA in Kuwait. VIVA is a Saudi Telecom (STC) Company subsidiary operating a 5G & LTE-Advanced (5 Carrier Aggregation) Network with a virtualized core. As the CTO Zarrar has the budgetary & operational responsibility for Planning, Implementation & Operations of Network, IT & VAS services. In his 20 years of employment, he has worked in startups as well as industry leaders. I have a strong grasp in planning, operations and project management of a bouquet of technologies including 5G, LTE, EPC, HSPA, WLL, HFC and Cable Television.
