Joe Barrett is President of the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), the leading industry association representing industry mobile suppliers worldwide. GSA promotes and advocates the family of 3GPP technologies covering the evolution of 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G technologies as well as standardised Low Power Wireless Access technologies. GSA is also a partner of multiple industry associations including NGMN, GSMA, 3GPP MulteFire, Small Cell Forum, 5G Infrastructure Association and the European Automotive-Telecom Alliance (EATA) that is focused on autonomous and connected automotive projects in Europe. The GSA Spectrum Group advocates the harmonisation of spectrum for mobile use.

Prior to becoming President of GSA, Joe worked at both Nokia and Qualcomm representing each company on the GSA Executive Board and helped drive the mobile technology agenda to position GSA as the trusted global supplier’s voice in the industry.

Joe started his mobile career in 1985 and has worked in roles including business development, product marketing, marketing & communications, strategy and business planning. He was part of the 3G strategic business team at Nokia, led the European marketing activities at Flarion, the company who developed the OFDMA technology for 4G-LTE and lead the creation of the brand and marketing positioning for Qualcomm Halo, the high power wireless charging technology for electric vehicles.

Joe holds an MSc. in Marketing from the University of Glamorgan and the CIM Advanced Diploma in Marketing.
