Marc Allera
Chief Executive Officer: Consumer at BT
Speaker

Profile

As head of three of the UK’s leading communications brands, BT, EE and Plusnet – as well as BT Sport – Marc is ultimately responsible for more than 30 million customer connections across the UK.

He is leading BT Consumer into a new chapter as a national champion, with a purpose of Connecting for Good and breaking down barriers for everyone in the UK – no matter who they are – and an unprecedented range of new products, services and skills programmes. Part of that is teaching tech skills to 10 million people in the UK through BT’s Skills for Tomorrow initiative, which will give five million school children the digital skills they need for a brighter future.

Under Marc’s leadership, BT is doing all it can to connect those who need it most during the pandemic. That includes giving unlimited data to frontline NHS workers, zero-rating educational websites and providing free connectivity to families and children without access to the internet so they can keep up with their education. Keeping customers connected with a seamless experience in lockdown and beyond has also been a priority for Marc when the shift in how we all live our lives has seen daytime traffic on BT’s fixed network more than double.

Marc is also driving the rollout of the next generation of connectivity to keep the UK at the forefront of new technology: EE was the first UK operator to launch 5G, creating a faster, more reliable mobile experience even in the busiest locations. 5G from EE is now live in more than 125 cities and large towns, with more to come in 2021.

Previously, Marc was CEO and, before that, COO of EE. In 10 years at Three, he was a driving force behind their growth from start-up to a major player in the mobile market. Prior to that, Marc was General Manager of Sega UK.

Marc is a Corporate Board member of Great Ormond Street Hospital as well as a mentor and investor to early stage growth businesses.
