The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) was established in December 1998 to evolve mobile systems to the next generation. Radio access technologies such as GSM, LTE and 5G NR are all a part of the 3GPP family, as are the Core Network and Systems Architecture Evolution building blocks that support them. 3GPP is one of the most successful standards projects of the past 20 years.
