Profile
Dan has been a leader in open source networking and security world since helping start Nicira, the company that created and led the software-defined networking (SDN) movement. At Nicira, Dan drove the creation of the Open vSwitch and OpenStack Networking projects, and led product strategy for Nicira, which became VMware NSX when the company was acquired in 2012.
More recently, Dan co-founded Isovalent, which is building the open source Cilium project (http://www.cilium.io) to bring the power of Linux eBPF to the world of Kubernetes networking and security. Cilium uses eBPF to go beyond the IP + port technology of traditional firewalls, instead building a high-performance and microservices-aware security layer that natively understands service-identity and common API protocols like HTTP, gRPC and Kafka.
