Atte Lahtiranta serves as Chief Technology Officer of the Verizon Media Group, a subsidiary of Verizon that comprises the former AOL and Yahoo. He is responsible for overseeing the strategy and implementation of all technical standards and projects across VMG and its brands, which serve more than 1 billion users and include Yahoo, Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS), AOL, HuffPost, TechCrunch, and Tumblr.
Prior to his current role, Atte was a Senior Fellow, Architect, and Vice President of Engineering at Yahoo. In that capacity, he oversaw teams working on the Yahoo Account and identity platform; Yahoo Geo and location platforms; and the Yahoo User Record Store (user targeting and profile aggregation big data service). Atte also worked on the architecture for Yahoo’s consumer platforms, including Social (graphs), ePay, Yahoo Abuse, Video (encoding and enrichment), premium content ingestion, and serving.
Before joining Yahoo, Atte co-founded and served as CTO of ShopAdvisor, a deferred ecommerce platform and service. There, he led the company’s technical group and was responsible for the product team’s architecture and technology. Atte built and scaled the service for millions of users and ShopAdvisor was a 2011 Rewind Apple App Store award winner.
In the nine years prior to founding ShopAdvisor, Atte served as Chief Architect for various products and platforms at Nokia, including Mobile Payments, Internet Media, Forum Nokia, and Services Architecture – ranging from delivery, data centers, consumer facing services, and common enablers and platforms. By the end of his tenure at Nokia he managed a global team of chief and lead architects and was responsible for Nokia’s entire services architecture vision and roadmap, including in-depth work in several critical areas.
In his spare time, Atte enjoys cooking and traveling back to his native Finland from Silicon Valley, where he has been living with his family on-and-off since 2006.
