Profile

Josh Goodell is an innovative leader who delivers AT&T’s business customers dynamic, virtualized, and intelligent edge solutions. Josh develops transformational software-centric solutions that help business customers improve end-to-end network performance, security, and control. His large portfolio extends from the customer edge to their cloud environments and contributed to AT&T Business Solutions nearly $37 billion in revenue in 2018—more than 21% of the company’s total revenue. With a focus on harnessing disruptive technologies, Josh is expanding AT&T’s core networking value proposition to customer end points by delivering on the promises of edge computing, cloud solutions and software-defined networking.

Over his tenure with AT&T, Josh has focused on driving innovation and transformation at scale. Prior to his current role, Josh led the initiative to redefine the way AT&T Business delivers software-centric solutions. In 2014, Josh debuted AT&T’s first deployment of software-defined networking capability, AT&T Switched Ethernet on Demand. Recognized as one of AT&T’s largest and most complex Agile Development transformations, his team scaled the service to over 1,000 customer networks across 170 metropolitan areas within 10 months and it is now a market leading solution. He was recognized for his work by Fierce Telecom, with the publication naming him an “Emerging Innovator in Wireline: Future leaders to watch in 2015.”

Josh later introduced the company’s first virtualized service, AT&T Dedicated Internet on Demand in over 170 metropolitan areas in a matter of months. He then expanded AT&T’s virtualized offerings by spearheading the delivery of AT&T’s first global software-based solution AT&T FlexWareSM in 2016. This platform increases business agility and future-proofs customer networks by simplifying the process for dynamically adding and managing network functions. Under Josh’s leadership, FlexWare expanded to thousands of locations in more than 200 countries and territories.

In 2017, Josh also expanded AT&T’s award-winning Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) services and scaled it to over 28,000 locations, making AT&T the largest SD-WAN provider globally. These software-defined solutions have received many industry awards from leading publications such as Light Reading and Fierce Telecom, to technology associations like MEF. IDC also recognized AT&T’s SD-WAN strategy as industry leading and Frost and Sullivan distinguished AT&T as the top in the industry for Growth, Innovation, and Leadership in 2018.

Prior to launching AT&T’s first software-centric commercial services, Josh initiated the transformation of AT&T’s Wi-Fi business to drive growth in a highly competitive environment. He introduced new business models such as Analytics as a Service and Advertising Monetization while shifting the architecture to a cloud model to reduce the overall cost of customer solutions.

A proven operator, Josh led a large network operations team that provided core AT&T services to customers. His teams consistently rated in the top 25 percentile across the company. He also led large call center teams and was one of two AT&T general managers recognized for “Going Beyond the Call” for his work leading force operations within all of California’s consumer organization.

Josh enjoys mentoring managers across the business and was recently selected to promote diversity and gender equality throughout AT&T. Josh has served on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement.

A California native, Josh holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of California at Irvine.
