Conference Day 2
- Sterling Perrin - Principal Analyst, Optical Networking & Transport, Heavy Reading
Network operators don't want SDN and white box hardware everywhere in their networks, but Heavy Reading research shows that an area of keen interest for both is in edge networks, particularly at the IP layer. With leading edge network operators – including AT&T – sending a clear message to their suppliers that access and edge routing should be disaggregated, a new crop of startups is emerging to address the requirements. Incumbent vendors, meanwhile, must address their messaging and their product lines for this trend. 5G is a major driver for white box routers, but not the only one. This session will address the primary drivers for disaggregated routers at the edge as well as the pros and cons of this approach compared to traditional coupling of proprietary hardware and software.
Now that we've cracked cloud-native and the business challenges operators and vendors face with SDN and NFV, what's next?
· What's the next disruption for NFV?
· What's next for the SD-WAN market?
· What challenges remain in deploying cloud-native applications?
· Is the conversation around virtualization shifting from a primary focus on technology to business outcomes?
