Keynote Presentation: Why Women Make Transformation Work
  • Jennifer Kyriakakis - Founder and VP Marketing, Matrixx Software

You don’t have to be a technical expert or any kind of genius coder to thrive in the technology business. Tech underpins so many successful, forward-thinking brands and is part of all our day-to-day lives. A major misperception which is holding people back in tech is that it is believed the skillsets that have been honed in other industries are not transferable or relevant to the technology industry. Product management, business management, product marketing, customer support or sales -- these are all career paths dependent on the same non-technical skills that are honed in other industries. While we need more women in tech-related roles in telecoms and across the tech-sphere as a whole, when considering other job responsibilities, women often represent half of their company’s workforce. In her keynote address, Jennifer Kyriakakis, founder and VP of marketing at MATRIXX Software, will look at how women who are not in tech-related positions can excel and lead in tech-dominated environments, particularly through this era of digital transformation. Kyriakakis will draw upon her career experience in systems integration and product marketing at leading corporations including Oracle, Portal Software, CGI and Accenture and now as the founder of MATRIXX Software.

The cultural component is often cited as the most difficult part of a digital transformation, but it's also the most important. For a transformation to succeed, company culture must transform as well. That's why efforts around diversity and inclusion go hand-in-hand with digital transformation. Making both a priority in concert will yield the biggest impact. This panel will address how companies can boldly tackle two of the biggest strategic imperatives in the industry today: digital transformation and diversity and inclusion. We will first offer compelling reasons why they should; second, we'll outline practical ways to accomplish both; and finally, we'll discuss the effects it can have on individuals, companies and the industry at large if done successfully.

It's not just the pay gap between men and women that is an issue in closing the gender gap, though that remains a persistent problem in the tech industry. It's also the gap between women and men represented in the C-suite, the gap between how women should be and are treated, the gap between female role models and aspiring women in tech and the gaps that exist all the way up the pipeline. These gaps persist despite well-documented studies around the benefits of gender diversity and equality in boosting employee health and morale, improving corporate reputation, advancing innovation, entering and expanding markets, increasing revenue and so much more. This panel will take a practical look at how far the industry has come in closing its gender gaps and the work that remains to make it a more equal, fair, diverse and inclusive space for women
