Sustainability at the Big 5G Event and Informa Tech

Sustainability is at the heart of Big 5G, from creating a positive environment to creating a safe space for all. These efforts are ongoing and evolving, and the commitment to these values from the venue, the attendees, our sponsors and partners are critical.

Sustainability at Informa Tech has five key elements: people, communities, environment, customers, and governance. Being an ethical, sustainable business is central to how we behave, how we make decisions, and how we do business every day. At Informa Tech, our evolution of producing sustainable events is fueled by insight, innovation, and collaboration. We are proud of our commitment to having a positive environmental and social impact on both the communities and industries we work within.

We will be announcing details on our initiatives in the run-up to the event, so keep visiting this page to stay up to date.

Our Venue

The venue is powered by 100% renewable energy from Austin Energy’s Green Choice Program. Not to mention, 50% of all waste generated is diverted from landfills through our extensive recycling, reuse, and composting program.

Sustainability at BIG 5G

Content Focused on the Sustainable Development of the Industry

Big 5G expert speakers will address the impact of telecom operations and services on the environment, as well as the need for the industry to become a more inclusive and diverse workplace. As part of the keynotes and technology-focused tracks, the issue of energy efficiency in operations will be discussed widely. As 6G is envisioned to play a very important role in the sustainable improvement of the industry, this specific topic will also be discussed at the event.

Supporting Diversity

Big 5G strives to support the development of the industry to be more diverse and inclusive, as well as inspire and showcase to the younger generation that there is a career path for them in telecoms and how to achieve this. The Women in Telecoms Summit features achieved professionals in the industry reflecting on their careers as well as finding sponsors, negotiating skills, building your brand and network, and more.

Mother's rooms and nursing pods are available throughout the venue.

Exhibition Floor

We will continue to limit the use of printed signage onsite and will use digital screens instead, to minimise waste. Sustainability banners used onsite will aim to encourage attendees to think about their carbon footprint. All roller banners will be recycled. The lanyards will be made of recycled materials.

Accessibility

Every effort is being made to ensure our venue is fully accessible. Should you require additional assistance, please contact your event coordinator. Ramps, handrails, elevators, automatic doors, and scooters are available to rent throughout the venue - support animals are welcome.

Exhibitors and Contractors

Big 5G exhibitors have been provided with Informa’s Checklist for Exhibiting Sustainably at a Physical Event and are urged to make progress on it through continuous communication with Informa.

Clean Air, Clean Environment

The venue is smoke-free and is cleaned with Green Seal-certified products to limit harmful volatile organic compound (VOC) particulates in the air. Our Integrated Pest Management system uses baits and traps and limits the use of chemicals to keep everything in tip-top shape.

Wellbeing

Big 5G is organizing early morning runs for the event attendees. A chill and charge zone will also be available to all attendees.

Energy & Waste

Big 5G Event is powered by 100% renewable energy and use of lighting/AC/other will be minimized or only used where essential. 50% of all waste generated is diverted from landfills. Carpet use will be minimized and only reusable/recyclable carpet will be used, same for the lanyards. Printed signage and materials will be replaced by digital equivalents, where possible.

Food and Beverage

All attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and water stations will be available throughout the event. No single-use, plastic straws will be available at Big 5G and vegan or vegetarian options will be available.
