Profile

Michael “Mike” Emmendorfer started his career at the beginning of the broadband era and in nearly 25 years he has held executive positions in engineering at a tier 1 broadband communication service provider, several tier 1 communication equipment suppliers, and served as industry standards chair at both CableLabs and the IEEE.

He serves as Vice President of Technology Solutions at Calix and reports to the CTO. He is responsible for defining next generation cloud and software platforms as well as premise and network wireline and wireless systems both within the company and in global standards organizations. He is building a team of technology evangelists to identify requirements as well as share the differentiation, advantages, and value of Calix with service providers worldwide.

Previously, Mike was Vice President of Systems Engineering and Architecture at both CommScope and ARRIS, reporting to the CTO. He led the systems engineering and architecture organization for all PON products, several DOCSIS products, and cloud virtualization platforms from concept to deployment.

In 1999, Mike joined Charter Communications and was a founding member in the creation of Charter’s Internet Services, Telephone Services and Business Services. He built and ran Charter’s first ISP Network and Application Engineering and Architecture organizations. The responsibilities spanned the end-to-end wireline and fixed wireless data networks (from premise edge DOCSIS, PON, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi systems to the internet POP router), cloud software platforms (email, voice systems, and provisioning) and business services including L2VPN and L3VPN. His responsibilities included the end-to-end architecture, engineering, testing, trials, and launch of Charter’s first Internet Services, Telephone Services and Business Services across 40 states.

He has been involved in the creation of technology standards and held standards chair appointments at the IEEE 1904.1 SIEPON Task Force 4 and as CableLabs FMA Vendor Chair, a first for the cable industry. He has received the SCTE’s “IP Innovator Award” the highest honor in the IP & data networking field. Mike has published over 40 industry papers, presentations, technical models, and financial models as well as authored over 10 patents. He has presented to a prime minster and several government agencies including the FCC. Mike holds a B.Sc. in Management Information Systems from Saint Louis University and held Cisco certification.
