Profile

Mike Emmendorfer is VP of Technology and Field CTO at Calix with responsibility for defining new access, premises, and cloud platforms and standards. He is a technology evangelist discussing vision and requirements with communication service providers (CSPs). Prior to Calix, he was VP of Systems Engineering and Architecture at both CommScope and ARRIS. He managed half of the CTO Networks group globally with responsibilities for PON, DOCSIS, and Cloud platforms. In 1999, he joined Charter Communications as a founding member, later engineering executive, of its Internet, Telephone & Business Services Units. He created their first Data Network & Application Engineering and Architecture organizations. Mike ushered in new technologies to create a modern CSP using PON, DOCSIS, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, IP/MPLS, VPN, Email, VoIP, EMS, NMS, provisioning, and automation. He oversaw the initial launch and ongoing deployments of residential, SMB, large business, MDU, hospitality & mobile Xhaul services across Charter’s 40 state footprint.

Mike is inducted into the Cable TV Pioneers, awarded Multichannel News Magazine "40 under 40”, and SCTE’s IP Innovator Award. These recognized his pioneering work transforming a cable TV provider into a modern CSP. Mike has received industry appointments, currently serving on the Broadband Forum’s Executive Advisory Board (EAB), Chair of the Fiber Broadband Association - Sustainability Working Group and prpl Foundation Board. Previously, Mike served on CableLabs DOCSIS Certification Board, as Co-Chair of CableLabs Flexible MAC Architecture (FMA) Working Group, and as Chair of IEEE Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (SIEPON) Task Force 4. He has presented to a prime minster, government agencies including the FCC, state PUC, and abroad, financial analysts, press and at conferences across the telecommunications industry. He has 40+ publications and 11 patents, some as the basis for industry standards. He holds a B.Sc. in Management Information Systems from Saint Louis University, held Cisco certification, and is currently enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
