2020 Startups and Scaleups
Aikomi is a digital health technology company co-founded in 2018 by former pharmaceutical company researchers Dr. Nick Hird and Junichi Kato. Aikomi`s mission is to create sustainable non-drug solutions to support person centred care and improve QoL for people with dementia, their families and care givers.
In collaboration with a cross-disciplinary partnership ecosystem, Aikomi has developed a technology platform to provide personalized multi-sense cognitive stimulation programs that are tailored by proprietary AI to the individual characteristics, life story and responses of the person with dementia. These tablet-based tools enable care givers and families to promote communication and engagement with people with dementia to provide psychological care and reduce care burden.
Aikomi has formed a partnership with SOMPO Holdings, one of Japan`s leading care home providers and Dainippon Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals to continue R&D and clinical development as well as commercialize the Aikomi platform. The first market launch will be in early 2021 as a consumer application for care homes and families in Japan. In parallel, a clinical path will be pursued to develop the world`s first regulatory approved digital therapy for BPSD (behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia). The vison of Aikomi is to use its personalized communication technology to enhance mutuality in the care relationship which is a key building block to creating sustainable solutions for dementia care.
Aikomi is now seeking partners and investors to help bring its technology to people living with dementia in the UK.
