Profile

Derek Khlopin is the Deputy Associate Administrator for Spectrum Planning and Policy in NTIA's Office of Spectrum Management (OSM). Derek is responsible for OSM’s strategic planning, spectrum affairs and information, and international spectrum policy programs. He is charged with leading OSM’s work to develop and advance policies that enable sufficient and efficient spectrum access for federal agencies to perform their missions while seeking opportunities to make additional spectrum available for commercial wireless services that advance economic opportunities across the U.S. He also works to ensure that international spectrum decisions are in the best economic and national security interests of the United States.

Previously, Derek served as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator on spectrum policy, regulation and management, as well as wireless and emerging technologies. Prior to joining NTIA, Derek spent most of his career in the private sector after a start at the Federal Communications Commission, including in senior government affairs positions with Nokia. Derek is a graduate of the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.
