Profile
With more than three decades in the industry, Samuel worked at McCarran (now Harry Reid) International Airport in Las Vegas, retiring as assistant director of aviation, information systems in 2020. Renowned for innovative transportation systems, he earned recognition as a Computerworld-Smithsonian Laureate for “Innovation in the Transportation Industry,” something that he continues to be very passionate about. Samuel chaired the business information technology (BIT) Committee at Airports Council International (ACI) and led IATA's common use passenger processing systems (CUPPS) effort, while helping develop the RFID chip standards for baggage and 2D barcode that all passengers use to board a flight. He spearheads various research projects for the National Academies' airport cooperative research program (ACRP), ACI-World, and other organizations. He co-leads the ACI Private Wireless Working Group and has long experience with wireless systems at airports. A graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, he is a frequent user of the aviation system, as a rated multi-engine commercial pilot.
