What are Private 5G Networks and how are they affecting the industry?

A private 5G network is a local area network (LAN) that will use 5G technologies to create a dedicated network with unified connectivity, optimised services and a secure means of communication within a specific area. It will deliver the speed, latency and other benefits promised by 5G to support next-generation applications.

Following the advancement in IoT and the related explosion in data and analytics generated from M2M communications, enterprises now have a far greater need for high reliability, security and fast speeds on their network to power these new technologies. With 5G networks now live all over the world, the potential for URLLC private networks building on the capabilities of LTE networks with 5G growing exponentially.

In the past, the potential for private networks was limited due to the fact spectrum was largely limited to licensed spectrum for operators and unlicensed spectrum in the form of wifi. However,  support from European governments making spectrum available for local 5G services is paving the way for industrial giants and businesses to build private networks.

Why attend Private Networks in a 5G World?

The perimeter of the private networks market is expanding fast - in nature and scope of activity. 5G represents only the latest in a rich array of private network deployment options including private LTE, Wi-Fi 6, LoraWAN and many others. The democratization of spectrum in countries such as Germany, the United States and Japan has galvanized experimentation - and investments. These include rising activity in contexts such as hospitals, business parks and universities, as well as those industries with critical communication needs including: public safety, oil and gas, mining, utilities, manufacturing, transport and logistics.

As enterprises look to invest in a private network, they need key questions answering, and they are increasingly seeking new ways to do business, to gain insight, to innovate and grow. They want to understand what concrete outcomes their business will achieve - and perhaps also whether their supplier is willing to co-invest, to share risks and rewards. Join us in London this year for the Private Networks in a 5G World event for:

  • Up-to-date insights on this quickly developing market
  • The expert view on the development of the market from our Omdia experts
  • Interactive sessions with our experts and attendees including presentations, debates, discussions and roundtables with regulators, enterprise leaders, telco operations and solutions providers
