Head of the “High Speed Networks and Optical Communication (NOC)” Research Group at AIT
Dr. Ioannis Tomkos (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.), is with the Athens Information Technology Center (AIT; Greece), since Sep 2002. He is/was an adjunct professor at University Carlos III (Spain), the College of Optical Sciences of University of Arizona, the ECE Department at University of Cyprus, Carnegie-Mellon University (USA), and senior scientist at Corning Inc. (USA) and University of Athens (Greece). At AIT he founded and serves as the Head of the “High Speed Networks and Optical Communication (NOC)” group that was/is involved with leading role in many EU funded research projects, as well as in national and industry R&D and consulting projects. Together with his colleagues and students he has co-authored over 600 peer-reviewed archival articles, which have received about 8000 citations. He is a Fellow of the IET (2010) and Fellow of OSA (2012) “for outstanding scientific contributions to the field of transparent optical networking”. Besides his research activities, he acts as advisor for CXO executives of companies operating in the telecom/datacom sectors.
