Optical Networks Lead at Telefonica Germany

Ralf joined Telefónica in 2006. He is currently leading Telefónica Germany’s team “Backbone Engineering” being responsible for the nationwide optical transmission networks. These networks provide services to nearly 50 million subscribers. Before joining Telefónica, Ralf had been with Ericsson and Nokia developing mobile networks and network management systems. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany, after having successfully completed his Diploma in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Network architectures including topology, connection points, bandwidth demands, etc. as well as the evaluation and deployment of the most recent WDM technology are within his main focus. Telefónica Germany is currently performing a transformation of its WDM backbone and backhaul networks towards partially disaggregated node architectures.
