Join us in Lisbon this December!
Since the inaugural 2020 Vision Executive Summit in Iceland four years ago, the communications industry has experienced the early stages of what is going to be a tough but ultimately rewarding transformation. There's plenty of excitement around the potential of 5G, AI, virtualization and other transformative trends but it's not all rainbows and unicorns -- and we know it.
A heavy dose of reality has started to set in as the day-to-day business and operational disruption caused by increasing automation, bewildering competition, regulatory uncertainty, political intervention, ever-faster innovation and unparalleled cybersecurity threats hits home.
These key issues will be front and center at this year’s 2020 Vision Executive Summit in Lisbon, December 4-6, where the crack team of Heavy Reading analysts, Light Reading editors will invite and encourage attendees to discuss pressing topics and answer questions.
Come prepared for MORE DEBATE, MORE DISCUSSION AND MORE INTERACTION THAN EVER BEFORE!
After several decades on an epic trek, the telecom industry is finally approaching the end of the journey to building autonomous networks. Telecom operators’ legacy approach differs wildly from the OTT players whose greenfield operations are highly automated. To compete with the OTT players, telcos need to be nimbler, and the only way to do this cost effectively is by increasing the level of automation, not just in OSS/ BSS but throughout the organization.
The industry is past due for a virtualization reality check. Are NFV and SDN really able to speed service innovation and reduce opex and capex or have virtualization efforts gone off the rails? With competition closing in on all sides, service providers have to take a hard look at whether the current trajectory of network management and orchestration will deliver real progress or more setbacks.
We’ll take an honest look at progress in the transport and networking requirements for the commercial launch of 5G. Operators can’t afford to fall behind on investing in the connectivity fabric for enabling advancements in IoT and edge computing.
