Boris received his Master's degree in Theoretical Physics from MSU "M.V.Lomonosov". After graduationg, hist interest shifted to computer science. His PhD research focused on virtual machines for dynamic programming languages. In 1996, Boris co-authored the VisualAge for Smalltalk Handbook published by IBM. He has made a number of fundamental contributions to virtual machine technology while working at IBM OTI Labs, The Object People, Cincom, and LabWare. He is one of the Founding Committers of Eclipse. He is also the named inventor on patents relating to a wide range of fields from template-driven code generation and database structures for information retrieval, to music notation for medieval chant. His recent work concentrates on automatic synthesis of JIT compilers from formal processor specifications via machine reasoning.
